Virtual Middle School Arts Lab: Monet Impressions (April 21, 3:45pm)

Date & Time: Wed, April 21, 3:45–4:45 p.m.
Instructor: Mariko Tu

Explore Monet’s use of loose brushstrokes and vibrant colors in The Artist’s Garden at Vétheuil. Then, working from a photograph of nature or a natural object (a flower, houseplant, etc.), create an Impressionistic artwork using oil pastels. Designed for students ages 10–14.


  • Advance registration is required by an adult on behalf of the youth participating.
  • Middle School ArtsLab is a free, one-hour virtual program held on the platform WebEx. Participants will need to have the WebEx application installed on their device beforehand. It can be downloaded here.
  • A WebEx meeting link and additional instructions will be provided a week before the event. Participants will need to use a device with camera and internet access.
  • Materials will be shipped to participants who register at least two weeks in advance of the workshop.
  • Those who register late will need to gather the following materials for class:
    • Photograph/image of nature or a natural object (flowers, houseplant, etc.)
    • Half sheet of white cardstock, Bristol paper or letter size white paper (5 1/2 x 8 1/2”)
    • Pencil
    • Oil pastels (or colored pencils, markers)
