The Cool School: How LA Learned to Love Modern Art (DVD)
Morgan Neville's fascinating documentary "The Cool School" reconstructs the history of the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles, which had a major influence on the development of contemporary art in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Walter Hopps, Director of the Pasadena Art Museum (PAM) from 1962 to 1967, was one of the founders of Ferus. The holdings from PAM are now part of the Norton Simon Museum. Works by many of the artists exhibited at Ferus are in the collection of the Norton Simon Museum.
